Very proud of my students
Teens from across Oakland were encouraged to submit their original artwork in a competition to transform the drab cement trash
cans outside the Main Library, located at 125 14th Street. Through a
grant provided by Keep Oakland Beautiful, the winning designs will be
transformed into colorful mosaic murals adorning the receptacles located
outside the Library on Madison Street. The winning designs were
selected by a panel of four judges that included two teens and local artist, Roberto Costa. Four teens from across Oakland were selected as winners of the Teen Design Competition:

Loving my job at ARISE
I LOVE my job at ARISE High School! The students and staff inspire me every day. I have been working really long hours to set up the art room and to try to catch up with all the new stuff I need to learn, develop, read, grade, clean and plan. In the mornings I feel so thankful and privileged to work in a community that cares so much about these young people. I feel connected, purposeful and joyful to be there. It is a blessing...

Life drawing quick sketches
I felt rusty! It has been a long time since I had done life drawing. These quick gestural sketches are a few of the ones I did this past Wednesday.

My first bread
Kneading was grounding, this is the first bread I have baked from scratch. It was much more satisfying than doing it with the bread machine. It may not be art but I find the process and the product beautiful!

Moving out, moving in
I'm sitting in an empty room, listening to the rain after a brief period of silent meditation. I haven't made any doodles or art work amidst the chaos of packing and fixing the condo so that is rent- ready.
I'm contemplating what it has been like to say goodbye to places and people I love. The movings out and in of heart space, physical space and mental space. As I look forward to and dread the job hunting, people meeting, CA explorations and sensual experience of a new place I sit and feel the anxiety along with the gratitude and I smile.

Old old sketch in a notebook
I'm cleaning out closets, boxes and junk from years of accumulating. I found this doodle in an old notebook.
